Novel Food - New Guidances from EFSA

EFSA now published two guidances for novel food applications in the context of the new Regulation (EU) No. 2015/2283. They address the preparation and presentation of applications of novel foods and the notification of traditional foods from third countries respecting the new legislation. We welcome the new approach that takes into account the diversity of foodstuffs that may be considered as novel. Moreover, EFSA references its bundle of specific guidances published in the last years that are applicable from case to case. From 1 January 2018 on, when applications will be presented directly to EFSA without initial assessment by the Authorities of the Member States, these guidances should be followed. We are looking forward to the new developments in this area.
